Graduation

Happy Graduation to all you graduates, but the most important one to me this year is Allegra, my baby sister.

At our all-girl highschool, we wear wedding dresses (not a joke!) to graduation. Allegra's graduation was sadly rained out, meaning it was held in the chapel. But, never fear, the sun was a-shining for Maypole. Yes, Maypole, the ancient fertility dance is another highschool tradition. That said, it really is beautiful to watch.

Congrats Allegra! You looked beautiful!

Way to go, Mom!

There's truly no excuse, so I won't offer one. I think about this blog everyday, often with an idea for posting. But I lack the downtime I used to have and apparently, the discipline. So, my apologies.

But this is too good not to post. I stumbled across yet another buy-expensive-things-less-expensively-(but still-plenty-expensive) site today called TheFoundry.com. They had decor items from a recent addition of Rue Magazine

My mom is certainly before her time, because we have this table. Way to be 20 years ahead of the curve and already back at the cusp of style (notice how it's sold out!). Maybe one day, it can live in my mod apartment.

Cue waterworks

This "It gets better" commercial from Google is an amazing testament to hope and love. Don't watch without tissue. And really take a second to tune in. You'll appreciate it.

On my mind...

  1. Are people still following Charlie Sheen on Twitter? (Spoiler: I guess so)
  2. What was the perfect storm that allowed such a meltdown to take center stage of American pop-culture?
  3. Why doesn't Facebook treat it's users like people?
  4. Fortune 100 site traffic has decreased by 23.02% this year. (via Hubspot webinar). That's insane. Someone is going to get blamed for that, and somebody is going to lose a job. But it's really that the world is shifting.
  5. PS If your site's stats are up-trending, you should feel proud/lucky.
  6. Can adults have summers off? I could really use it. As you can see, I'm really thinking about work. A lot.
  7. Where should we go on vacation? Thinking Newport for the Folk Fest, St.Louis for a high school graduation. Any other good ideas for winding down with a cold one? And some nachos? Send my way.

Another busy week

My recent adventures have been well captured in other places.

I took a sewing class that left me one tote bag and one decorative pillow richer. You can read more about it here.

I also (re)met the Fabulous Beekman Boys at the Harvard Coop for a Josh Kilmer Purcell book reading. Josh's partner Brent was there to show his support as well. You can see more pictures and a video of yours truly showing off here.

An Easter Ensemble

Hello Easter. Not a big holiday for me, buutt an opportunity to dress WASP-y and have a morning cocktail. Then a quick scene change/costume change before it's off to snuggle babes and pups.

Check it:
J Crew Delaney eyelet dress

Hot pink Kate Spade wallet

For an extra-special treat, choose a hat from Miss hikerandheels post.

Then I'm hunkering down with these adorable kiddos:
What are you plans? Have a great weekend!

One year later

Well, well, well. What a year it's been! Yesterday was Marathon Monday, which means several things to this sometime-blogger.

1st- Christmas in Boston
2nd- Amazing outpouring of love and support (and booze) in the streets.
3rd- This blog is more than one year old.
4th- I've spent an amazing year with a man I met on the street (wait for it) last Marathon Monday.

This year was a different type of Marathon celebration for me. More about love, less about drinking my face off. It was still full of tender moments and a hugely supportive city. Here are some pictures from this year's adventure:

She's all g(r)owned up

My little hot stuff sister had her senior prom on Friday. And she looked Fierce. 1997 Fierce.

Do enjoy!

Props to the mama bear for making this all happen.

Newport Folk Fest 2011! BAM!

Thanks to miss HikerinHeels, we ventured to the Newport Folk Fest 2011 lineup announcement party. It was at the Middlesex and sponsored by Magic Hat and Bacardi. A delicious treat! But, but, but! The best part was obviously the line-up. I went last summer without expectations and it blew the rest of my (relatively awesome) summer events out of the water. The line-up was incredible, the venue unbeatable. We didn't see a bad act the entire time we were there.

And this year looks just as good. An incredible line-up featuring some big names, some smaller ones and some favorites. Two bands played last night, Brown Bird (they were great!) and the David Wax Museum, whom we saw last year and features a kick-ass jaw bone player (not a joke). Spoiler alert: both bands are playing this summer.

Do you want to see the whole lineup AND my smiling face? Check out this video I was a part of. It was a super fun concept and I was pumped to be a part of it.

Celebrate the Little Wins

We've been talking about personal growth a lot in my apartment recently as we all seem to be in a state of flux. We caught up with our old roommate who has (in the last 8 months): moved cities, started a new job, begun filing her nails, chopped off her hair, gone gluten-free, upgraded to a smart phone. Phew. Exhausting. But all things to be proud of.

And I'm proud of mine: This week, I bought shorts from J.Crew. Now, maybe this isn't a big step for you, but it is for me.

And I'm ready for summer. Just need to accessorize with some chunky jewelry and summer scarves.

Don't forget to celebrate the little victories in your life.
