Love these

Sorry for the lack of posts recently. Things are hopefully heading back to good.

These photos by Beverly Joubert who works for National Geographic were sold on the daily deal decor site One's Kings Lane (want an invite? let me know) really moved me. They would make such a statement in a living room.

Snow day

The most recent issue of Lonny didn't make me swoon as much as the others have but here are my favorite images this month. The theme is a cozy, rustic feel in broader space.

Best Ever Present

I came home from Barbados to find that some Christmas elves had left me quite a serious surprise. This project was a super-top secret labor of love and it's easily the most thoughtful gift I've ever received.

Before and after's on this bad boy when I get my hands on them.

But doesn't it look familiar? It's based on a dresser that makes me swoon that I posted here.

OMG!!

This is Kate Spade's creative Deb Lloyd's Brooklyn home. And I would DIE to have this living room.

Oops..

When I look through the rooms I find inspirational or dream about living it, one thing is clear: I prefer spaces designed for a woman. Besides rustic, hearty furniture, the spaces I conjure for my future are absolutely feminine.

I blame the women in my life. My Aunt Barb lived for many years in a perfect, girly apartment, complete with a dressing room in Chicago! It was tres Sex & the City. And my Mom got away with murder. Ask her about the first bedroom wallpaper in our house--it was large baskets of flowers on a light gray background. My Dad finally put his foot down (actually, I have no idea how it happened, but I imagine he came one day and said he could simply no longer sleep in a room full of flowers) and now, they have a soothing, magical dark green wallpaper which completely transformed the ambiance.

Anyways, he who lives with me will either have his work cut or he'll enjoy some pretty nooks. Poor guy.

A lovely desk to call home

Hellooooo, mirror!

Ugh! The purple dresser!

First Bite: Deuxave

Last night, I was fortunate enough to go to the grand opening of Deuxave (doo-ave) at 371 Commonwealth Ave. (Oddly, I had already been.) Regardless, it was a chance to show off the state-of-art-ktichen, some interesting cocktails and a sampling of food.

The co-owners come from Dorchester-fave dbar, a place my roommates and I frequent for cherished Show-tune Tuesday. Point is, these guys are good.

The space is sleek and contemporary: dark gray, lush booths, chandeliers and a marble bar. (There is a serious lack of pictures to post, however). It's another up-scale neighborhood joint. I think this particular location, with a crippling lack of parking, may serve to be difficult but I'm hoping Deuxave proves me wrong.

Onto the story, last night I enjoyed complimentary sparkling wine and a lemonade-esque tequila cocktail. I enjoyed my drinks thoroughly, but paid for that this morning.

We sampled passed apps including a sweet corn soup, tuna tartare, salted milk chocolate caramels with cherry, prosciutto-wrapped watermelon, cheese puffs, oysters and other tasty delights. This one poor waiter kept passing by with meat-centric apps, so I continued to pass (as I'm a pain-in-the-ass vegetarian). He got frustrated and said, "You can't reject me all night," after describing a small square as a lemon and muffled something with a fig chutney. So I tried it.

As it turns out, that muffled something was a pretty important piece of information to hear. I bite directly into an app with pate on top. I knew immediately something was not right that was happening in my mouth, but there wasn't much to do about it.

This was quite a foray back into meat-eating. My poor friend asked, "Oh, do you not like liver?" Gratefully, she ate the reminder while I flagged down the bartender for another tequila.

Dreaming in All White

Woah. I'm not usually one for the all-white look. But not this time. I was all ooooh's and ahhh's as I flipped through the Cyrus Company catalogue. Just for today, let's pretend this is all in our price range, we never spill red wine and all-white living arrangements are remotely feasible. I promise the idea will be worth it. Even just for a moment.

Adore this shape

Oeuf! This chandelier!

This bed is calling me

This reminds me of my little sister

I am obsessed with this headboard.

A Fabulous and Classy Fourth!

I was lucky enough to be asked to cohost a 4th of July Part overlooking the river on Beacon Street. We had a blast putting the details together and with the help of one decorator and one (God-sent) bartender, the party was a huge success.

222 Beacon is post-worthy all on it's own; an apartment with glorious bones and breathtaking views. The 15 foot ceilings don't hurt either. The apartment is designed for a bachelor, but has a definite designer's touch with plenty of art and antiques to feast your eyes on.

Some party highlights (pronounced hig-a-lig-its):

Our friend Vanessa came in from New York and helped us set up.

Arestia and me!

Party prep

Not a bad sunset, no?

Our classy party wasn't too stuffy.

A little display.

All the co-hosts.

Green Dream

This room, obviously featured in this month's Lonny, has me all green with envy. (Such a shitty pun, I'm sorry, I had to take it). There is so much flavor in this room. It looks like a great place to spend a day. A real haven.

I use my bedroom more as a functional place and don't spend much time in my room for non-sleeping purposes. I don't think that's either good or bad, just the way it is. Growing up, the action was in the kitchen and I hate missing the action. Now, the craziness is in the living room and that's where I do the limited living we do in the apartment. Truth be told, I'm more likely to be socializing with my roommates out of doors than on our couches* which reminds me of this someecard.

House Lust

Are you kidding? I was dying over kate spade Co-President Deborah Lloyd's lake house. DYING.

Check out these photos from Lonny's June/July issue.

Glorious gray/pink combo. My total new obsession.

What a killer masculine detail added!

Probably involves a lot of dusting, but it is a delicious powder room.

Yes, mirror, you can come to my house.

Love.Love.Love.

Gosh, it makes my attempt at redecorating my little bedroom so bland! Cheers to never being satisfied!

I LOVE a good....

...Mirror. And this bad boy sent my heart a-flutter.

Featured in this month's Lonny in a home that Bunny Williams decorated on Sea Island, GA. Ironically, my family and I visited Sea Island every summer for many, many years and it is now BLOWING UP on my blogs with good reason. The decor of the Cloister is pretty stunning; high-end, preppy, well-worn and everything you want your several million dollar beach house to be.

Anyway, this mirror is only $2,800 soooo, I'm expecting it for my birthday. K thanks!
